Gun-free zones = safe working environments for criminals (EDITED)

February 20, 2018

(EDITED) I needed to start this post with a question and I forgot about it until this morning. As I was listening to the radio on my way to work I heard that President Trump is banning ‘bump-stocks.’ And of course we’re hearing the usual cries to ban “assault” weapons, ie guns that look scary and can accept magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. Ban those. How many people think that banning bump-stocks and AR15’s will do anything to prevent another mass shooting, at a school or any other place? Not this guy. The point is, the next mass shooting will most likely be committed by some guy / gal who already  has a gun. What about the 300+ million guns already in the hands of Americans? What is going to stop the next shooting? The answer is right in front of every one. But that isn’t even being considered … why? Because it will work and the Democrats and loons on the left don’t want that. If they actually implement something that works, it will upset their goal to confiscated all privately owned guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens. They know that until that happens, complete control over the people will never be accomplished.

A bunch of high-school kids staged a protest in front of the White House. I was kind of wondering how they all got there. Then there are the other “kids” being exploited … er … interviewed by the major news stations providing canned lines, eager to get a little fame or notoriety as a gun-control advocate.

Then again folks, don’t believe anything presented by the major news media, and I mean anything! Take for example this guy who claims to be a survivor of the Florida school shooting. This guy is nothing but a fraud pushed to the forefront by the likes of CNN and CBS. Click right HERE and watch the very short video. Then click right about HERE to see where he’s been. Okay, actually folks, RIGHT HERE is David Hogg, the moron playing the victim in the linked video. (this “victim” really gets around!)

The call for more gun-control laws is curious to me. At least one government entity learned that the school shooter was an imminent threat to the school and did nothing, following a set pattern of past shootings. Yet the left and these high-school kids who obviously have been fed liberal lunacy, want to place their compete trust in protecting them in the hands of the very people whose inaction resulted in the deaths of their friends.

Anyway, all we’re hearing is the government has to “do something!” Yet, getting some funding for fences and armed guards which obviously will foil some shootings isn’t what the left wants. They’re pushing more laws designed to take guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens and won’t do squat to stop the next mass shooting. “It’s too expensive!” “What if one of the kids grabs a guard’s gun?!” “What about if a teacher is having a bad day and opens fire on his/her students?!” And then there’s the classic; “Why is it a federal government issue?” while bitching for the President and Congress to enact more gun-control laws. (typical loony left-wing logic). Well, the government contributes over $500 million to Planned Parenthood so they can continue their slaughter of unborn children. Why can’t the government take a little from them and use it to actually protect kids in schools? Nah, pre-born babies aren’t human beings, so it’s cool to kill them off. After all, it’s very expensive to raise a kid.

Trusting any government to personally protect you is utter folly. Protection from crime is literally in the hands of the individual. Waiting for the cops (with guns) to stop a crime in progress has cost countless innocent lives. Obviously trusting in the FBI to stop a crime isn’t working out so well. Banning a type of gun because it looks ‘scary’ or because it can kill people (I think all of them have that potential when used by those with killing people in mind) might make a liberal feel good, but it won’t do anything to prevent a bad guy, a person with evil intent from shooting a bunch of people in a “gun free zone.” As far as I can tell, a good and responsible, law-abiding gun owner isn’t going to shoot up a school, regardless of what kind of gun he/she possesses.

Yeah, the Gun Free School Zone act of 1990 set forth by a Democrat and signed into law by G.H.W. Bush really did a lot to protect those school children. (being facetious) Thank you Joe Biden. Thank you Congress, as everyone in the Congress voted for it save one. Hmmmm … “gun free.” I think that kind of tells a bad guy that he/she won’t have to worry about resistance. A “safe working environment” for anyone wanting to kill a bunch of people without fear of being shot.  HERE is a pretty good article with good reasoning as to why, as usual, laws such as creating gun-free zones are futile and dangerous.

    To answer the beginning…

I read Michael Bloomberg is paying for the whole shebang and his group got the kids riled up

I do wonder where their parents are???

It was either Hannity or Rush that said this…

We guard the movie stars on the red carpet of the academy awards

    We guard the politicians

    Airports are guarded

But we don’t guard our kids at school

I read with interest your take on the situation Doug. I think you have some valid points. I see Chuq offered his $.02 worth in the comments section. I realize you’re position is pretty far left of center, but Chuq … he’s beyond any hope of reasoning. Yes, I’ve dealt with him throughout the past several years and he is the typical, predictable liberal mouth-piece. I’ve edited my post with an opening paragraph.

      Thanks for your recognition, Steve.
Regarding chuq being beyond all hope of reasoning… are we not all fitting that description these days? Therein is the problem.Left of center… hmm… there is no such thing as center anyway… as everyone has some bias that always trips one side or the other. I don’t see myself as being “far” left… but no one thinks they are personally reflected politically the way other people may perceive them. Perhaps a variant of Id, ego, and super ego.

But.. I will admit to disliking much more than you can ever imagine (and I am sure you can imagine a lot) Trump being President. 🙂

You deserve accolades for having read all those posts I made.

Ah yes, now there’s no “center.” Okay, I’ll concede to that.
No, not all people are fitting the description of being beyond all hope of reasoning. Just liberals, sad to say.

    • February 21, 2018 2:24 pm

Liberals will say conservatives are beyond all hope.
Ok, Steve… how would you deal with the mass shooter problem? That’s a challenge by me.. and it doesn’t mean you have to get as verbose as me; I tend to explain more than most, and very possibly you might sum it all up in one sentence rather than six posts like I made. In effect I am suggesting.. quit yer bitchin’ and try contributing a solution. Quite obviously nothing is likely ever going to happen and we are all just pissing in the wind anyway.

I’ve already made suggestions as to how to deal with the mass shooter problem. Liberals say “we need to make it more difficult for lunatics to have access to guns!” Hey, you’ll get no argument from me. However, don’t you kind of think we “need to make it much more difficult for lunatics to have access to schools?”

    • February 21, 2018 4:46 pm

Not all people (children) can be diagnosed as “lunatic” (not a scientific word, btw… which in itself tends to be part of the problem… ignoring mental health). As of yet the state of technology and science is not capable of diagnosing a child of being mentally ill enough to be a public safety risk. How exactly would you do that?

Typical reply. Again, taking a single word “lunatic” and using that (just like you did with “center”) to find fault with any plan you didn’t come up with. Also typical of folks who always look for ways to NOT do something all the while bitching that something isn’t being done to solve a problem. I’m not going to define lunatic for you … a guy who walks into a school with an AR15 and kills 17 kids just might fit the bill … but I’m not a mental health expert. Hey, that could be perfectly normal. Actually he probably was, as the FBI didn’t see any reason to monitor him.

Gawd, Steve.. do you have to be so confrontational all the time? The entire world does not rise and fall on the Second Amendment (oh, and the NRA). But it’s absolutely enjoyable seeing the NRA squirming a bit for a change. But that organization never ever puts it’s money where their mouth is. Did LaPierre pledge any money at all toward fighting mental health or even to harden one single school to show their support? Nope.. because the mental health and hardening schools issue is just throwing back mud in their perception that the Second amendment is being threatened. They need their buck to sway politicians instead. Yeah… a real American organization the NRA is.

    • February 22, 2018 4:52 pm

Gawd Doug. I still haven’t figured out what the beef is with the NRA. Here’s what I’ve noticed just in our short dialogue … liberals seem to find problems with solutions while conservatives try to find and present solutions.
Since when is it up to the N freakin RA to throw money at mental health??? I don’t think it their place to do that. They exist to protect our 2nd Amendment rights. (sorry, that little thing in the Constitution) Talk about putting money where mouths are: name one of the glamorous Hollywood freaks (who’s jumping on the gun-control band-wagon contributing millions of dollars for marches and other vain crap that will solve nothing), who is also putting their money towards mental health problems. There isn’t one.
Hell, they spew this crap about ‘global warming’ and other nonsense while jetting around in their private jets and limos. The bitch about ‘income-inequality’ … living in multi-million $ mansions, exactly like each and every Democrat in Congress. The bottom line is the liberals and Democrats could not care less about “the children” and you and I know it. They don’t give a rat’s ass about the ‘poor’, minorities, immigrants, refugees, homos, trannies, etc. They care about one thing and one thing only … votes and staying in power.

    • February 22, 2018 5:18 pm

Hey.. I never implied it was the NRA’s responsibility to clear up the gun mess. Never. They are “just” an interest group organization. I am simply saying that they are also a business and it’s generally a good business practice to keep your company image a positive influence in society to encourage continued profitability. While the NRA exists to promote the interests of its members.. not everyone in the country is a member or even holds the same interests. Yet it might behoove the organization to balance their overall image given their interest reflects a hugely controversial subject within society. This time around they are getting more into the public hot seat… and apparently LaPierre and the leadership realizes it. But it is apparent that the NRA wants to continue making all this about some perception that the Second Amendment is in jeopardy. So, go for the continued crappy PR, circle the wagons to protect some misconception, and see what happens. Maybe nothing will happen.. maybe it will. But public opinion is inching closer.

You know, Steve, “the reason they exist is to protect the Second Amendment” rather illustrates the problem. I was a member once.. and they do far more to represent the gun interest than “defending the Second Amendment”. BUT… they most certainly do a lot to try and convince their members to fear the Second Amendment is under attack for any number of wild-assed reasons. They sell fear for money.

Arm the teachers and if possible arm the kids too. People die while waiting for help to arrive from the outside.

Good idea John! Isn’t it something that these poor victims have to wait for cops with guns to show up to stop this crap. Did you see the report that an armed deputy showed up at the school during the shooting spree and stood outside for over 4 minutes and did absolutely nothing!!! He got suspended and then he resigned. Yet, and this is what pisses me off, the sheriff was asked if teachers should be armed (because his armed deputy was too cowardly to do anything) and the guy said no, we don’t need armed teachers. Yeah, we’ll just wait on your ass to show up … in the mean time … lets blame the NRA.

Absolutely correct on every point, Steve!

What do you think about it?
